Case Study:

A cheese processing facility in Wales required the careful removal and full reinstallation of an existing access platform, conveyor section and stairway. The works were necessary to allow GEA to install two new coil cassettes into the existing refrigeration unit, meaning the structure had to come out cleanly and go back in precisely.

This was not a straightforward reinstallation. With the structure needing to relocate back onto existing fixed support stubs set into the floor, the tolerance for adjustment was minimal. Any inaccuracy in positioning would have caused significant problems, not least with the conveyor, which had to be set perfectly level to prevent belt-tracking issues once back in operation.

Working in a live food processing environment added further complexity, with hygiene and finish standards that had to be maintained throughout.

Our team carried out careful measurement and controlled positioning of the complete assembly, with on-site modifications made where required to achieve accurate reinstatement. All welding works were completed by our coded welders to the standards expected in a food manufacturing environment.

Following installation, all affected stainless steel surfaces were fully dressed and polished — leaving no visible signs that the equipment had ever been removed. The finished result met the facility’s strict hygiene and aesthetic requirements.

A challenging reinstallation completed safely, on time and to the exacting standards of a food production environment. The conveyor was set level, the structure reinstated accurately, and the facility was able to return to full operation without issue.

Willand Engineering provide mechanical installation, reinstatement and on-site fabrication services for food and drink manufacturing facilities across the UK. Our coded welders are experienced in working to the hygiene and finish standards that food processing environments demand.

If you have planned maintenance, equipment upgrades or site installation works coming up, we’d be happy to discuss how we can help.
